Product Specification: LION® R30400 (T-400 Type) Cobalt-Based Alloy
LION® R30400 is the most versatile grade within the cobalt-based Tribaloy® family. Specifically designed for extreme environments, it utilizes a hard intermetallic Laves phase (Mo, Si, Co) dispersed in a tough alloy matrix. This structure provides an exceptional balance of mechanical wear resistance, high-temperature strength, and oxidation resistance, making it the industry standard for severe-service components.
1. Key Performance Advantages
- Exceptional Galling Resistance: The high molybdenum content creates a low-friction surface that resists metal-to-metal “welding” and scoring in non-lubricated conditions.
- Balanced Corrosion Resistance: Offers good stability in various corrosive media, including acids and salt spray, combined with reliable oxidation resistance.
- Wide Temperature Range: Maintains high strength and hardness from room temperature up to 800°C – 1000°C (1470°F – 1830°F).
- Improved Toughness: Among the high-molybdenum Tribaloy alloys, R30400 offers a better balance of ductility and hardness (51-58 HRC) compared to the harder R30800.
2. Technical Specifications (Nominal Composition)
| unsur | Symbol | Weight % (Typical) |
|---|---|---|
| Kobalt | Co | 61.0 – 63.0% (Balance) |
| Molibdenum | Mo | 27.0 – 29.0% |
| Chromium | Cr | 7.5 – 10.0% |
| Silicon | Si | 2.2 – 3.0% |
| Iron + Nickel | Fe + Ni | ≤ 3.0% |
| Karbon | C | ≤ 0.08% |
3. Physical & Mechanical Properties
- Hardness: 51 – 58 HRC (Room Temp)
- Density: 8.60 – 8.65 g/cm³
- Tensile Strength: ~690 MPa (Typical)
- Melting Range: 1285°C – 1350°C (2350°F – 2460°F)
4. Industrial Applications
LION® R30400 is widely used in automotive, aerospace, and general industrial sectors for components such as:
- Automotif: Turbocharger components, high-performance valve train parts, and bushings.
- Pemprosesan Kimia: Pump components, valve internals, and seals exposed to abrasive slurries.
- Aviation: Support vanes, turbine engine seals, and bleed air valves.
- Nuclear & Power: High-pressure steam valve components and seat inserts.
5. Fabrication & Machining Guidance
- Kimpalan: Suitable for PTA (Plasma Transferred Arc) and Laser Cladding. High preheat temperatures (approx. 500°C) are typically required to prevent thermal cracking during deposition.
- Machining: Difficult to machine due to the hard Laves phase. Best processed via EDM (Electrical Discharge Machining) or grinding with specialized abrasive wheels.
Industry Cross-Reference: UNS R30400 | Comparable Grade: Tribaloy® T-400.
