AS R30006

UNS-R30006

Product Specification: LION® R30006 (Stellite 6 Type)

LION® R30006 is the “industrial workhorse” of the cobalt-based alloy family. As the most widely used versatile cobalt alloy, it provides an excellent balance of impact resistance, corrosion resistance, and wear resistance. It is the premier choice for applications involving heavy cavitation, thermal shock, and high-temperature erosion.

1. Detailed Chemical Composition (Weight %)

CoCrWCNiFeSiMn
Baki27.0-31.04.0-6.00.9-1.4≤3.0≤3.0≤2.0≤1.0

2. Hot Hardness Data (Stability at Temperature)

R30006 is prized for its “Red Hardness,” maintaining structural integrity even when heated to a dull red glow:

  • Room Temp: 38 – 45 HRC
  • 400°C (750°F): 34 HRC
  • 600°C (1110°F): 29 HRC
  • 800°C (1470°F): 21 HRC
  • 900°C (1650°F): 17 HRC

3. Mechanical & Physical Constants

  • Density: 8.44 g/cm³ (0.305 lb/in³)
  • Melting Range: 1285°C – 1410°C (2340°F – 2570°F)
  • Tensile Strength: 850 MPa (123,000 psi)
  • Yield Strength: 725 MPa (105,000 psi)
  • Elongation: 1 – 3% (Remarkable toughness for a wear alloy)
  • Compressive Strength: 1140 MPa (165,000 psi)
  • Thermal Expansion: 14.2 μm/m·K (20-500°C)

4. Primary Applications

The versatile nature of R30006 makes it the standard for high-performance sealing and cutting:

  • Oil & Gas: Gate valve seats, stems, and trim; pump shaft sleeves.
  • Penjanaan Kuasa: Steam turbine bypass valves and boiler feed pump internals.
  • Automotif: Engine valve seats and turbocharger components.
  • Pemprosesan Kimia: Knife edges, scrapers, and homogenizer plungers.
  • Steel Industry: Hot shear blades and pinch rollers.

5. Processing & Fabrication Guidance

  • Hardfacing: Highly compatible with SMAW, GMAW, PTA, and Laser Cladding. Unlike harder grades, R30006 is less prone to cracking, requiring a moderate preheat of 250°C – 350°C.
  • Machining: Can be turned using carbide-tipped tools (K20 or equivalent) or ceramic inserts. Best surface finishes are achieved through grinding.
  • Finishing: Excellent for polishing; can achieve a mirror finish for mechanical seal applications.
