Product Specification: LION® R30900 (T-900 Type) Cobalt-Based Alloy
LION® R30900 is a premium cobalt-based super-alloy specifically engineered for applications demanding extreme wear resistance. It belongs to the high-performance family of alloys that utilize a hard, intermetallic Laves phase (formed by Molybdenum and Silicon) dispersed within a tough cobalt-chromium-nickel matrix. This unique microstructure ensures exceptional performance in high-load, non-lubricated, and highly corrosive environments.
1. Key Performance Advantages
- Superior Galling Resistance: The Laves phase provides a low-coefficient of friction and prevents metal-to-metal welding (galling) or scoring even under extreme contact pressure.
- High-Temperature Red Hardness: Unlike many stainless steels, LION® R30900 maintains its significant mechanical strength and hardness at temperatures reaching 870°C (1600°F).
- Enhanced Fracture Toughness: Specially formulated with an optimized Nikel (Ni) content (approx. 16%), it offers significantly better crack resistance and weldability compared to traditional T-800 series alloys.
- Oxidation & Corrosion Resistance: Provides excellent chemical stability in aggressive media, including organic acids, and remains highly resistant to oxidation in hot air atmospheres.

3. Physical & Mechanical Properties
- Hardness: 52 – 57 HRC (As-cast / Weld-overlay)
- Density: 8.65 g/cm³
- Melting Range: 1285°C – 1350°C (2350°F – 2465°F)
- Thermal Expansion: 11.5 x 10⁻⁶ / °C (at 20-500°C)
4. Primary Applications
LION® R30900 is the material of choice for critical components in the following sectors:
- Aeroangkasa: Aircraft bleed air valves, turbine engine bushings, and high-temperature support vanes.
- Oil & Gas: High-pressure mechanical seal rings, pump shaft sleeves, and downhole tool wear parts.
- Penjanaan Kuasa: Steam turbine valve seats, boiler feed pump components, and high-pressure steam seals.
- Automotif: Turbocharger internal wastegate components and high-performance exhaust valve train parts.
5. Fabrication & Machining Guidance
- Welding & Cladding: Highly recommended for PTA (Plasma Transferred Arc) dan Laser Cladding. Due to the addition of Nickel, preheating requirements can be reduced to approximately 260°C (500°F).
- Machining: Due to the hard intermetallic phases, rigid machine setups and carbide or ceramic tooling are required. Low cutting speeds and constant feed rates are essential to achieve a high-quality surface finish.
Industry Cross-Reference: UNS R30900 | Comparable Trade Grade: Tribaloy T-900 type.
