Product Specification: LION® R30103 (Stellite 3 PM Type)
LION® R30103 is an ultra-hard, cobalt-chromium-tungsten alloy produced via Powder Metallurgy (PM). Positioned as one of the most wear-resistant grades in the Stellite family, it is designed for severe abrasion and solid particle erosion. It maintains exceptional hardness at red-heat temperatures, making it the premier choice for stationary high-wear components.
1. Key Performance Advantages
- Extreme Abrasion Resistance: High carbide volume fraction provides a superior barrier against heavy particulate wear and erosion.
- High-Temperature Integrity: Maintains structural hardness and resistance to galling at temperatures up to 800°C (1470°F).
- Excellent Metal-to-Metal Wear: Low coefficient of friction prevents seizing and surface welding in high-pressure contact.
- PM Quality: The Powder Metallurgy process ensures a uniform carbide distribution and superior consistency compared to standard castings.
2. Technical Specifications (Nominal Composition)
| Co | Cr | W | C | Fe | Ni |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Baki | 28.0-33.0% | 11.0-14.0% | 2.0-2.8% | ≤5.0% | ≤3.5% |
3. Mechanical & Physical Properties
- Hardness Range: 48 – 63 HRC
- Density: 8.69 g/cm³ (0.314 lb/in³)
- Melting Range: 1250°C – 1290°C (2280°F – 2355°F)
- Typical UTS: 551 MPa (80 ksi)
- Thermal Conductivity: 11.0 W/m·K (at 100°C)
4. Primary Applications
Targeted at high-friction environments where impact is minimal:
- Manufacturing: Steel mill guide rolls, seaming rolls, and wear pads.
- Valve & Pump: Rotary seal rings, expeller screws, and valve seat inserts.
- Medical/Tools: Surgical scissor inserts, needle holders, and burner nozzles.
5. Processing & Machining Guidance
- Fabrication: Due to extreme brittleness, R30103 is not recommended for hardfacing applications. It is typically supplied as finished PM parts or inserts.
- Machining: Nearly impossible to machine with conventional tools. Best finished via EDM (Electrical Discharge Machining) or grinding with diamond/CBN wheels.
