Product Specification: LION® R30800 (T-800 Type) Cobalt-Based Alloy
LION® R30800 is a high-performance, cobalt-chromium-molybdenum alloy engineered for superior wear resistance in the most demanding industrial environments. Recognized globally as the Tribaloy® T-800 type, this material is characterized by its high volume fraction (approx. 50%) of hard, intermetallic Laves phase dispersed in a tough cobalt alloy matrix.
1. Key Technical Features
- Exceptional Hardness: With a typical hardness range of 54–62 HRC, it provides the highest wear resistance within the Tribaloy family.
- Adhesive Wear Resistance: The Laves phase provides a low coefficient of friction, making it immune to galling, fretting, and “welding” even when lubrication is absent.
- Extreme Temperature Stability: Maintains mechanical integrity and oxidation resistance at service temperatures exceeding 1000°C (1832°F).
- Ketahanan Korosi: High Molybdenum content ensures stability in aggressive chemical media, including various organic and inorganic acids.
2. Technical Specifications (Nominal Composition)
| Elemen | Symbol | Weight % (Typical) |
|---|---|---|
| Kobalt | Co | Keseimbangan |
| Molibdenum | Mo | 27.0 – 30.0% |
| Kromium | Cr | 16.5 – 18.5% |
| Silicon | Si | 3.0 – 3.8% |
| Iron + Nickel | Fe + Ni | ≤ 3.0% |
| Karbon | C | ≤ 0.08% |
3. Physical & Mechanical Properties
- Hardness (As-cast/Deposit): 54 – 62 HRC
- Density: 8.64 g/cm³ (0.312 lb/in³)
- Melting Range: 1290°C – 1335°C (2355°F – 2435°F)
- Coefficient of Thermal Expansion: 11.2 x 10⁻⁶ / °C (20–500°C)
4. Industrial Applications
LION® R30800 is vital for components facing heavy mechanical stress and high temperatures:
- Aviation & Aerospace: Turbine blade interlocks, combustion liners, and high-temp valve stems.
- Oil & Gas: Severe-service valve seats, pump bushings, and drill-bit bearings.
- Process Industry: Galvanizing line rolls, hot-extrusion dies, and chemical agitator seals.
- Energy: High-pressure steam turbine components and nuclear valve internals.
5. Fabrication Guidance
- Welding & Cladding: Best suited for PTA (Plasma Transferred Arc), Laser Cladding, or HVOF spraying. Due to its high hardness and sensitivity to thermal shock, a high preheat temperature of 500°C – 650°C (930°F – 1200°F) is essential to prevent cracking.
- Machining: Highly difficult to machine due to the brittle Laves phase. Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM) or grinding with silicon carbide or diamond wheels is recommended.
Industry Cross-Reference: UNS R30800 | Comparable Grade: Tribaloy® T-800 type.
